Every "studio quality in one click" tool gets the same treatment here: a published rubric, a computed score, a letter grade, and margin notes explaining exactly where the points went. No curve, no favors — our top grade this term goes to a tool that pays us nothing.
Top of the class: Auphonic
89.5/100 — the only tool that came near an A
Leveling, noise and reverb reduction, loudness targets and batch processing, with every price public and 2 free hours a month. Read why it still lost half a letter. No affiliate relationship — we just like the work.
The grade board — autumn term, 2026
Six AI enhancers sat the same exam. Scores are computed by our published rubric (scope 25%, control 20%, workflow 20%, value 20%, transparency 15%) from what each vendor documents and charges — checked live on 2026-09-20. Full working shown in each review.

Grades are generated by the scoring script described on How We Grade; we paste its output and never hand-edit a number.
Nobody earned an A. That is the finding.
This term's papers, filed by grade
We expected to hand out at least one. We could not. The AI voice enhancer category has a marketing voice — studio sound, one click, like magic — that its control surfaces have not caught up with. The typical tool gives you a single on/off switch for a problem (room noise, echo, uneven levels) that professionals treat as five separate decisions. When the one-shot guess is right, it feels miraculous. When it is wrong, you get the over-processed "underwater" voice everyone now recognizes, and no dial to back it off.
That is not a reason to skip the category — it is a reason to grade it honestly. Auphonic earned its A− by exposing decisions instead of hiding them. iZotope RX 12 earned a B+ by giving you every dial in existence, and lost ground only because most people will not climb its learning curve. The C-range crowd all share the same missing point: they ask for your trust instead of your judgment. The margin notes in each marked paper say precisely how each one could raise its grade next term.
What we grade — and the one thing we send elsewhere
Recorded voice, after the fact
Enhancers repair what is already on disk: podcast tracks, interview tapes, lecture captures, voice memos. That is our entire syllabus — how to run a recording through AI without wrecking it.
The tools between the big names
The famous cleanup tools are reviewed to death across the web. Our desk seats go to the enhancer names that get less scrutiny — graded on the same rubric every time.
Live calls are a different exam
No enhancer can fix a meeting while it happens — that is real-time noise cancellation, a separate category. Here is the boundary, and the tool we point to on the other side of it.
Recording already ruined? Next call doesn't have to be.
Enhancers mark yesterday's paper. For tomorrow's meetings, real-time suppression is the category that actually helps: Krisp removes background noise from both sides of a live call, on a 7-day free trial, from $8/month billed annually (checked 2026-09-20).

Grade inflation in AI audio: everyone claims "studio quality"
Six marketing pages, one identical promise, zero shared definition of "studio." What honest enhancer marketing would say instead.

Podcastle is now Async: field notes on a rebrand
A 308 redirect, script files that still say "podcastle", and a pricing page that shows dashes with JavaScript off. What buyers should check.
Quick questions, straight answers
What exactly is an AI voice enhancer?
Software that takes a finished voice recording and uses machine-learning models to reduce noise and room reverb, rebalance levels, and generally push it toward broadcast norms. The good ones expose controls; the weak ones offer a single magic button. Our ranked grades open with a fuller definition.
Are your grades paid placements?
No. Grades come out of a scoring script with published weights, computed from documented facts, before any affiliate link is attached. Our current best-in-class, Auphonic, has no affiliate program at all — we link it anyway and label it "no affiliate relationship."
Why is there no free-tools roundup here?
Free tiers are covered inside each review — the 2 free monthly hours at Auphonic, the ~10 free minutes at ElevenLabs, and so on. We grade tools, not price tags, so we do not run a separate free-only list.
Do you test with your own recordings?
We grade from what vendors document, charge and demonstrably ship — pricing pages, docs, feature matrices — all verified on the date printed on the page. When we have not run a tool through a bench, we say so plainly rather than invent listening-test numbers. The rubric is built so documented facts, not vibes, decide the letter.
